Atelier Monad is a space dedicated towards the practice and creation of actinic arts - handmade photographs & prints.
It is focussed upon promoting the culture of producing and appreciating historic and traditional practices of
photography and printmaking by means of practice, production and outreach programs.
WHAT IS MONAD?
From the root word Mono, meaning "One", Monad stands for the thought principle that "everything is connected", and therefore is "One".
In the same essence, Atelier Monad binds different practices and purposes into a single framework, that allows to form a natural collective of artists.
ABOUT US
Based in the village of Nachinola, Goa (India), Atelier Monad is formulated primarily as a multipurpose space that facilitates a smooth workflow for artists. Equipped with a darkroom lab and a photographic studio, the space also exists as a centre that allows for artist’ residencies, exhibitions, creative assemblies and related activities to promote actinic & visual arts. Our purpose is to fill an essential gap in the South-Asian region, particularly in the west-coast of the Indian peninsula, to provide amenities and space that facilitates not just practice, but also propagation of traditional and historic, photographic and printmaking practices.
The artists’ individual practice & craft is at the heart of everything at Monad and we aim to constantly improve upon our faculties to bridge the gap between creative discussions and actual production of artistic work. Monad also aims to bring together like-minded people to explore and experiment with creative possibilities. The artist-in-residency program is an important module within our ecosystem that is aimed towards exchange and enrichment of existing faculties, besides emphasising on the relevance of actinic art in a socio-political context.

As a collective, Monad also aims to exist beyond the physical space as an online facilitator, to collaborate with the international community of artists and academicians, so as to fulfil the intended purpose of preserving and promoting the fascinating world of analogue and alternative processes.

Atelier Monad invites practitioners, researchers and academicians from across the globe, to join hands with us and make our circle bigger - an association wholly for the purpose of starting new dialogues and conversations around the science and art of actinic practices. A formation that already exists within our circles in South-Asia, The Monad Collective aims to find common ground and expand boundaries within the existing practices and to employ the arts in favour of positive changes in the environment - both in nature and in the socio-political context.
